BCM&D Album Competition

Transform Your Performance into a Professional Release

Step into the spotlight with the BCM&D Album Competition: Boyer College’s premier showcase of student artistry, talent and professional excellence. This annual competition gives outstanding student performers the chance to record, produce and release their performance on the BCM&D Records label, gaining tangible portfolio assets and invaluable industry experience.

More than a competition, this is your chance to take a bold step toward your professional future to build your portfolio, connect with industry leaders and take a step into the recording world!

Format and Prizes

Competition Format

Students may apply solo or as duos in one of three categories:

  • Classical instrument (including piano)
  • Classical voice and musical theater 
  • Jazz (instrumental or vocal)

One winner will be selected in each category.

The audition piece--maximum of 10 minutes in length--must be the same piece that will be recorded if you win.

Students may use a staff pianist or collaborate with a student pianist (duo).  

Prizes

Winners will each receive

  • A professional recording session of up to 10 minutes of recorded music (8 hours of production time including recording, setup, editing, mixing and file management)
  • A cash award of $2000 ($1000 each for duos)
  • One private lesson/coaching with a judge in their category
  • Professional photoshoot
  • 5 copies of competition winners CD released on BCM&D Records
  • Recordings hosted on BCM&D webpage for one year
  • Digital files of your recording for your portfolio 

Process and Timeline

  • Applications from all competitors are due on Friday, November 21, 2025.
    • In order to apply below, competitors must download and complete a signed Teacher Approval Form.
    • Additionally, competitors must submit a self-tape or practice recording with their application. Note: this does not need to be professional by any means; it helps the audio producer understand the type of repertoire students will be submitting.
  • Competitors will be announced on Monday, December 8, 2025.
  • Competitors must be present at their assigned competition time on Friday, January 23, 2026, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in Rock Hall Auditorium.
  • Winners will be announced on Monday, January 26, 2026 and must be present for their recording session on Friday, February 6, 2026 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Temple Performing Arts Center.
  • The planned release date for the competition winners album is Friday, April 3, 2026.
