Michael Johnson has been an active contributor to the independent popular music industry over the last 25 years as a producer, performer, songwriter, tour manager, label owner, consultant and general utility person. His work has been released on labels including Sub Pop, Ninja Tune, Atlantic, Matador and Verve, among others. He's been a part of albums and tours by artists including The War On Drugs, Japanese Breakfast, Kurt Vile, Daedelus, Lilys and many more. He continues to be active in a studio setting, and works with a number of artists in a variety of roles.
Johnson was an associate professor at the University of the Arts and helped found and direct the Music Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology program for a decade before the university's unfortunate collapse. He is currently working on a variety of initiatives to help fill the void that the loss left for Philadelphia's young artist community, specifically in the field of contemporary popular electronic music education and cultural chronology.
