Dr. Charles Abramovic, Chair of Keyboard Studies and Professor of Piano

Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Keyboard Studies. Our department provides intensive professional education in keyboard performance and pedagogy within the context of a comprehensive university. Students receive individual instruction with professional artist-teachers and enjoy numerous opportunities for performance. We strive for the highest standard of musical training, emphasizing the development of a large performance repertory along with pianistic skills that will prepare students as solo artists, collaborative musicians, and teachers. The dedicated and supportive piano faculty provides our students with flexibility, security, and musicianship that will guide the development of their professional careers. All practice rooms dedicated for keyboard students have Steinway grand pianos, as do all teaching studios. We have an excellent collection of early keyboard instruments (harpsichords, fortepiano, portative organ) that enhance understanding of musical style and performance practice.

Living in Philadelphia you will be in one of the most important cultural centers of the United States. Our students receive free or discounted tickets to concerts given by some of the greatest performers in the world. Many of these performers offer master classes for us during the academic year. Feel free to visit us at any time. You are always welcome at a performance by a student or faculty member, or to attend one of our outstanding guest master classes.

Warm regards,
Charles Abramovic
