Once you have been accepted to Temple and the Boyer College of Music and Dance, and have paid your tuition and housing deposits, it is time to schedule your orientation.

Orientation

For registration information, visit the Temple Orientation website. A separate registration with Boyer is not required. During orientation, students will meet with staff advisors and register for their first semester of courses, lessons, and ensembles.

Dance Majors

Incoming Dance students must register for one of the dance-specific orientation dates, as determined by the dance department. Please email the Dance Department for more information.

Music Majors

At your orientation, all incoming Music majors will take a piano proficiency examination. This exam is utilized for placement in the appropriate piano class or private lesson.

Prior to attending orientation, all incoming Music majors are also required to take a Music Theory Placement Examination that will be sent to them to complete online. This examination will determine which level of music theory the student is to be placed into. Students who do not successfully pass this examination must enroll in remedial music theory courses for the first year of study. Incoming students who have received a 4 or a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam are excused from having to complete this examination, as they are permitted to skip Music Theory I or can enroll in Honors Music Theory I.
