Biography

Mike Norris is an adjunct professor and Coordinator of Student Teaching at the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. His responsibilities include securing all student teaching placements for music education, coordinating with cooperating teachers, supervising student teachers, and teaching the Senior Seminar Class as well as an Intro to Teaching Music and Learning class to first-year music education students. Following graduation at West Chester University with a bachelor of science degree in music education, he began his teaching career in the Boyertown Area School District. He enjoyed working at the junior high level teaching general and vocal music and directing musicals for 33 years. At the district level, he served as the fine arts coordinator for the Art and Music Programs for seven years before retiring. Norris is the U.S.A. Director for the London-based Music & Travel Tour Consultants, designing educational programs for performance tours for bands, choirs and orchestras in Europe. He enjoyed 30 years with the Mike Norris Band, a six-piece ensemble performing in the greater Philadelphia area providing music for weddings and corporate events. Norris is also an active freelance musician playing piano in several big bands and jazz duos and trios.
