Dr. Darlene Brooks is a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), a Fellow in Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT), and a Reiki Master. Dr. Brooks has over 20 years of clinical experience in music therapy, and 15 years of supervisory experience as a clinical training director. Areas of clinical specialty include music therapy with adolescents, geriatrics, adult psychiatry, psychiatric disabilities in children, chemical dependency and autism. 

Dr. Brooks served on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Music Therapy for eight years, and the Certification Board for Music Therapists for six years. At Loyola University, she was Coordinator of Music Therapy. In addition, she served on the Curriculum Committee, The Dean's Advisory Board, and several university committees, and she chaired the College of Music Rank & Tenure Committee. At Temple, Dr. Brooks is the Director of Music Therapy, Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Music Therapy, teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, and serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies for Boyer College of Music & Dance, on the Boyer Executive Council and other committees in the college.

Dr. Brooks has presented at numerous conferences and workshops, and has several clinical and research publications; and over the last twenty years, she has also maintained an active interest in performing in community musical theatre. She has served on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Music Therapy and is presently on the Editorial Board for The Arts in Psychotherapy. Dr. Brooks has published in the Journal of Music Therapy, Music Therapy Perspectives and The Arts in Psychotherapy: An International Journal. Her current research interests include: Clinical supervision, education and academic supervision, alternative medicine, and Guided Imagery and Music (GIM).
