Join us for our annual Festival of Winds, co-sponsored by the Temple University Bands and Music Education Department. Participating ensembles will perform on stage in the beautiful Temple Performing Arts Center, receive recorded feedback and a post-performance clinic from outstanding music educators, and participate in master classes with Temple University faculty and members of The Philadelphia Orchestra. The festival will also include a midday performance by the Temple University Wind Symphony.

Fee: $590 per ensemble

Scheduling: Registered ensembles will receive a questionnaire in January asking for their top three (3) time slot preferences. There are five (5) morning performance times and four (4) afternoon performance times. While we cannot guarantee a specific time slot, in many cases we are able to honor preferences. It is our hope that ensembles will remain on campus for either the master classes or the Temple University Wind Symphony performance as we believe these are important components of the festival experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a deadline?

It is strongly recommended that schools register and pay by Friday, January 9, 2026. A survey to select your performance time slot will be sent out shortly after this date to schools who have registered and fully paid. Schools may still register after this date but will have limited scheduling options. 

How does scheduling work?

In mid-January, a scheduling survey will be sent to all registered schools. You will be asked for your top three (3) time slot choices. There are five (5) morning performance times and four (4) afternoon performance times. While we cannot guarantee a specific time slot, in many cases we are able to honor preferences. It is our hope that ensembles will remain on campus for either the master classes or the Temple University Wind Symphony performance as we believe these are important components of the festival experience.

What is the flow of the day?

Buses will be asked to drop off in front of the Temple Performing Arts Center (TPAC) on Broad Street in Philadelphia. Students will warm up in the lower level of TPAC and come up to the stage when it is time for their performance/clinic. Designated instrument/case storage is available for the duration of the day in Mitten Hall, right next door to TPAC. Schools are encouraged to watch one or more performances by other bands throughout the day. All schools intending to attend the master classes will meet in TPAC and Temple student guides will lead students to the various locations around campus. 

What kind of feedback will we get?

Each performing ensemble will receive recorded audio feedback from two adjudicators, as well as conductor-specific video feedback from a third adjudicator. You will also receive a post-performance clinic with tips and insights about how to continue improving. Each ensemble will also receive a video recording of your performance. 

What will we need to bring to the festival?

We will provide all standard large percussion equipment. You should plan to bring all small percussion equipment as well as sticks and mallets. In addition, you will need three copies of scores for all pieces you are performing, with measures numbered, for the adjudicators. In order to be in compliance with copyright laws, these should be original copies or should be accompanied by a note from the publisher with permission to photocopy.

NEW IN 2026: All band directors will be asked to provide documentation and proof of state-issued clearances and background checks to interact with minors (your students) on our campus. Whatever documentation you have on file for employment in your school district will likely suffice. This is mandated by Temple University’s Risk Management Office and is non-negotiable. You will be contacted shortly after registration by someone named Eric Schweingruber, who will work with you to collect this information.

Are concerts open to the public?

Yes, all concerts throughout the day are free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. The Temple University Wind Symphony concert is also free and tickets are not required.
