Individual Lessons

Known for its renowned faculty and teaching excellence, Temple Music Prep has been providing individual instrumental and vocal lessons to students of all ages and abilities since 1968. Registrations for new students are accepted at any time during the semester on a prorated basis.

30, 45 and 60 minute lessons are offered in-person or online.
Individual instruction is available in bassoon, clarinet, cello, composition, double bass, guitar (acoustic/electric/bass), flute, French horn, harp, piano, oboe, saxophone, theory, trombone, trumpet, tuba, viola, violin, and voice. Jazz and classical are offered on many instruments.

Schedule your First Lesson

Please fill out the online application to inform the Registrar's office of your schedule availability, instrument, experience and other preferences. Once this is completed you will be contacted to schedule a trial lesson with the recommended teacher. All tuition payments are made online via the noncredit student account you created during the application process.

Suzuki Instruction

Suzuki, a specialized method of musical instruction for young children ages 4 to 8 years, is currently offered in piano, violin, and viola. Following Dr. Suzuki’s premise that “any child can be educated and developed to a high level,” parents and teachers work together to create an encouraging and supportive environment in which children develop by listening, imitating and watching others. Along with individual lessons there are group classes every other week with other Suzuki practicing students.

The free Parent Suzuki Information Session is highly recommended for parents of new Suzuki students.

Suzuki Piano/Violin/Viola (Ages 4 to 8 years)

We offer weekly 30 or 45 minute lessons, plus 45 minute group classes every other week when appropriate and available. To begin scheduling your first lesson, please fill out our online application to tell us your schedule availability, instrument, experience, and other preferences. Once this is completed we will contact you to schedule lessons with a teacher. All tuition payments are made online via your Temple account created when you complete this application and are billed in 16 lesson increments.

For beginner students:

The first two lessons may be for parents only. Observation of lessons of other current students may be assigned based upon teacher recommendation. These "Parent Only" lessons and observations are essential components of a successful Suzuki learning experience.
If your child is too young, it may be recommended that they go through our Suzuki Pre-Twinkle Class (below).
Our Every Child Can! adult class is recommended for parents interested in learning more about the Suzuki Method.

Suzuki Pre-Twinkle Class (Ages 3 to 5 years)

Pre-Twinkle Classes provide opportunities for very young children to develop basic musicianship and readiness skills for success in the Suzuki approach. Music from different Suzuki instruments may be featured helping to transition students into the more formal environment of lessons as well as introducing parents to the Suzuki philosophy.

A core component of Pre-Twinkle classes at Temple Music Prep is Suzuki POP (Paper Orchestra Program). Students will build a violin/viola out of everyday household items, sing, and move with their instruments. Students will have a variety of musical enrichment activities that mix arts and crafts with music. Students will do drills to start establishing a set of violin/viola performing skills. Students will learn instrument and bow parts plus the famous “Twinkle Variations” on their Paper violin/viola. At the end of the session, students will present a short performance to show off their instrument.

Both child and parent observe and learn from the instructor as well as others in the class. Children develop concentration, good posture and concepts of a beautiful tone in this supportive group environment. Parents attend classes with their child and learn to guide the child's progress and prepare for future individual lessons and practice.
