Dr. Weightman has lived and worked on three of the world’s continents. Born in Manchester, England, she studied piano at the Guildhall School of Music in London where she won the LEP prize for accompanying, before moving to Egypt to teach at the Cairo Conservatoire of Music. She came to America in 1980 for a double Master’s degree at Temple in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano, and continued her studies at the Manhattan School of Music where she received her DMA degree.
Weightman has performed in England, Italy, Egypt and America, encompassing every type of musical ensemble, from instrumental and vocal chamber music to opera and musical theatre.
She developed the General Education course “World Music and Cultures,” and currently teaches this and other World Music classes, as well as Keyboard Harmony at Temple, and piano in her home studio. Former teaching positions include Penn State University, (Abington, PA); Albright College (PA); Wilmington Music School (DE), and head of department at The Academy of Community Music (PA).
