Boyer is dedicated to helping its students achieve instrumental mastery as well as the comprehensive education necessary to become well-rounded professional musicians. All instrumental students receive one lesson per week from full-and part-time faculty, one-half of whom are members of The Philadelphia Orchestra. This individual study with exemplary faculty enables each student to achieve a high degree of proficiency on their major instrument (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, classical guitar). A high level of participation in both large and small ensembles provides performance experience and broad knowledge of the literature. Specialized coursework develops expertise in reading, writing, analysis, musical styles and performance practices that mark the professional performer. Temple University’s Department of Instrumental Studies provides the potential professional performer and/or teacher with the finest instrumental training within the context of a comprehensive graduate program.
